Test Development

The Test Development Committee is comprised of subject matter experts from a variety of disciplines. The committee met regularly beginning in February 2005 at the University of Chicago - Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies. The committee, who then reviewed, revised and approved items for the test, wrote test questions. The tests were piloted in eight states (Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona and Washington). Approximately 150 people sat for each test. The tests were scored and the data analyzed. The Test Development Committee reviewed the items and their related statistics, and revised the pass score.

The committee was also responsible for generating the task list, content guidelines and the test plan. Additional input was received from external item writers and reviewers, but the Test Development Committee holds the final approval over test content and certification requirements. Test development is an ongoing process and the committee will continue to review this process. The CAC and CAEd exams are available at more than 220 Pearson VUE Professional Testing Centers across the United States and Canada. In early 2014, a secure online testing platform was introduced for facilities and agencies to proctor the CAC exam to their caregivers.
